‘Tis the season for holiday parties and dinner soirees!

December is a typically busy month for corporate functions and end-of-year parties. A very common gig request involves playing background music at a Christmas work party or function.

Rarely do I get requests to play piano to accompany near-professional singers perform for one another at a private home, and what a treat that was. It reminded me of the patronage system in the Classical era, where musicians were hired to perform in the homes of the aristocrats that hired them to do so. Of course, the event that I had the privilege of performing at was much less formal but far more dynamic and engaging than I would ever imagine the patronage system to be!

Repertoire for the evening consisted of La Vie en Rose (in French), Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Show Boat, Hammerstein, Peggy Lee and Bing Crosby, etc.

Please enquire further if you’re interested in having piano music at your end-of-year corporate function … or even a sing-along soiree/dinner party!
